Orla’s Story

Orla Langan is a fashion designer whose work explores and deconstructs traditions of tailoring and construction, drawing inspiration from historical costume, Japanese workwear, sportswear, art, music and emerging technologies.

Her philosophy is that style should not be at the expense of our planet. She supports the Cradle to Cradle process, creating products with the vision of building a world where waste is effectively eliminated. Cradle to Cradle design reimagines the traditional take-make-waste model and replaces it with a circular, regenerative system. It promotes the idea that products and materials can be designed to create continuous cycles of use and reuse, reducing the strain on our planet’s resources and fostering a more sustainable and transparent future for design.

She has an ongoing interest in biomaterials, 3D design, adaptive fashion, farm to fabric, AI, XR and digital fashion solutions for a more circular approach to design, and continues to research how these can be incorporated into her own practice.

Orla merges and explores sustainable design, creative pattern cutting, non-binary fashion and contemporary streetwear. The result is a modernist mix of fabrication, pattern, colour and detail that echo the form and process of Orla's zero-waste philosophy. The playful and sculptural tailoring in contrast materials and print is a statement on the power of design to both elevate function and celebrate style. She is constantly researching new textiles without compromising the inherent properties that she builds into each garment.
